I am a Rock

Paul Simon, in his song, I’m a Rock, sings.

I’ve built walls, a fortress deep and mighty, that none may penetrate. I have no need for friendship. Friendship causes pain. It’s laughter, and it’s loving, I disdain. I’m a rock, I’m an island.

Okay, that’s not the way Jesus put it. He said.

A new commandment I give you, that you love one another.

Messy? Of course it’s messy. Irritating? Sometimes. But then there’s a lot to be said about holding hands in the dark. And the truth is that I’ve tried and I can’t do this thing alone.
