Phony Money

Phony Money

Enamored with all our stuff, we’re playing poker with phony money.

Shortly before the end of the Civil War, Union troops captured wagons fleeing the South’s capital of Richmond.

Those wagons were filled with Confederate money. You know what those Union troops did? They played poker with that money.

That’s what a lot of people do, play poker with phony money. Sometimes I do too. When I get enamored with stuff I’ve bought and things I’ve acquired, I remember that as Mark Twain said, I paid too much for my whistle. I’ve never seen a hearse pulling a U-Haul.

Sobering thought, isn’t it?

I’m Steve Brown. You think about that.
