Who would have us?

There’s an old story of a man and a woman who lived together out of wedlock.

And they did it for a lot of years. When they were both old, the man decided they should get married, and he told his lady friend. She said, that’s wonderful, but who in the world would have us?

When we finally reach the place where we realize that if others really knew us, they wouldn’t have us. That’s when Jesus steps in and says, I will, not because you’re worthy, but because I love people nobody else will love.

I don’t know about you, but I find that comforting.
